Sriman Madhwacharya Moola Maha Samsthana Sri Raghavendra Swamy Matha, Mantralayam is well known for encouraging scholars and conducting various programmes to provide a platform for these scholars. The Matha regularly conducts Knowledge-based programmes at Mantralaya and also at its various branches spread across the country. One such programme which is also very popular among scholars is the Srimath Sameera Samaya Samvardhini Sabha. The credit of regularizing this
as an annual programme goes to Sri Susheelendra Teertha of the Matha (1912-1926).
Sameera means Vayu (Mukhyaprana) and Samaya means The Doctrines. The title itself explains the significance of The Sabha. The most prominent task of the Sabha is to strengthen the scriptural knowledge by more discussions amongst scholars and thereby churning out of knowledge.
The Sabha was holding programmes at Mantralaya annually from the period of Sri Susheelendra Teertha to Sri Suyameendra Teertha, however, during the period of Sri Sujayeendra Teertha (well known as the Architect of Modern Mantralaya), the Sabha started having two conferences annually, one at Mantralaya and another at any other part of the country. The highlighting factor here was that the Sabha would invite followers and scholars of other traditions and philosophies too and a more detailed discussion would take place as a result of this. All the scholars then would be handsomely rewarded with remuneration and prizes helping to preserve the Vedic tradition alive for long.
His Holiness Sri Sushameendra Teertharu (1984-2008) bags the credit of hosting the Sabha very efficiently at Vijayawada, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Hosaritti, Raichur, Srirangam, Kumbakonam, Madurai, Hubli and Pune. Sri Suyateendra Sripadaru has taken this tradition forward by increasing the value and volume of the remuneration, thereby encouraging more young scholars to participate actively in these activities.
There is a very cordial relationship between Sri Sode Vadiraja Matha and Sri Raghavendra Swamy Matha, Mantralaya. This relation was built up right from the time of Sri Madhwacharya and was strengthened during the period of Sri Vadiraja Teertha (of Sri Vishnu Teertha’s lineage) and Sri Vijayeendra Teertha (of Sri Padmanabha Teertha’s lineage). During Sri Vijayeendra Teertha’s Udupi Yatra, the then Paryaya Swamiji Sri Vadiraja Teertha gifted him land right in front of the Sri Krishna temple to construct a Matha. In the beginning of the 19th century Sri Susheelendra Teertha Swamiji constructed Matha here and consecrated Mrittika Vrindavana with the cooperation of Sri Vibhudapriya Teertha of Admar matha.
Previously, during the Paryaya period of Sri Vishwothama Teertha of Sode Matha (1980-82), one conference of the Sabha was held at Udupi by Sri Sujayeendra Teertha. While having such a significant history now the conference is again arranged at Udupi by Sri Suyateendra Teertharu in association with the Paryaya Swamiji Sri Vishwavallabha Teertha Swamiji of Sri Sode Vadiraja Matha, Udupi, who is also the disciple of Sri Vishwothama Teertharu. Thousands of Scholars in Dwaita Vedanta from all over the country are expected to participate in this Sabha.
